529 Participants Arrested Since September 20, 37 Remain in Custody: MP
Following the protests, over sixty individuals currently face charges. Of these, five have been placed under house arrest, while 37 are detained for periods ranging from 20 days to 2 months, with visitation rights prohibited for 17 of them. This information was shared by Kristine Vardanyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, on her Facebook page, alongside a response she received from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"There is an attempt to establish a climate of fear across the country. To give you an idea of the scale of the ongoing repression, I sent an inquiry to the Ministry of Internal Affairs on September 22, seeking to understand the extent of the repression and the injuries sustained by individuals. Last week, I received the following data in response to my inquiry: 'Since September 20, 2023, 529 participants of protests have been arrested in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Physical injuries have been recorded in six individuals, three of whom were hospitalized, two filed reports, and one sustained injuries due to the use of handcuffs.'"
As a result of the protests to date, more than sixty individuals have been charged, with five under house arrest and 37 detained for periods between 20 days and two months, 17 of whom are prohibited from receiving visitors. Previously, political and social figures have been arbitrarily detained, with their detention periods continuously extended. Dedicated lawyers and members of opposition factions are working to protect the rights of all individuals involved," she wrote.
