We Must Be United Now to Thoughtfully and Smartly Bring Back Artsakh,” Says MP from the Civil Contract Party
“What has happened that we should not cooperate?” asked MP Gagik Melkonyan from the Armenian National Assembly’s Civil Contract parliamentary group in an interview with Aysor.am, responding to a question about whether they are ready to cooperate with the government of the displaced Artsakh after declaring it part of Azerbaijan.
Melkonyan stated that the deputies of Artsakh must recognize the declaration of the dissolution of Artsakh as null and void. “They should be wise enough to have their Supreme Court declare that the signing of the declaration on the dissolution of Artsakh is invalid, because they have no right to make such a decision; the National Assembly must ratify it. Now, if they can do all this, then that would be very good; if they can’t, then according to the plan that has been sent to them, they are following that plan,” he said.
The MP noted that bilateral work must be conducted. “We should not cease our operations following the loss of Artsakh. We are currently appealing to international organizations; everything is being done by our authorities, all of Europe, America, and all countries are on their feet saying this issue must be resolved swiftly. No one should think that this government is not engaged in this matter; everything is being done,” he stated.
Melkonyan reminded that the Armenian authorities care for the issues of the people of Artsakh: “After all, we brought our hundreds of thousands of people here, we housed them, and provided assistance in every way – both financially and morally. Everything is being done by the government of Armenia and by the Armenian people. Now, what remains is for us to be able to thoughtfully and smartly bring back Artsakh; there we must be united, not come here declaring that Karabakh citizens have come and have a regime change. All of that must disappear; we must establish peace between our two nations so that we can work together for Artsakh,” he said.
