Georgia Announces Preparations for Potential Nuclear Warfare

The authorities in Georgia are taking measures to prepare for the possible use of nuclear weapons in the region. This was stated by Grigol Liluashvili, the head of the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia, to reporters after a closed parliamentary hearing.

“Current challenges do not exclude the use of nuclear weapons in the region, so we must conduct a careful and prudent policy,” Mr. Liluashvili said, specifically referring to the relations between Georgia and Russia, as well as the situation in the Middle East.

According to the head of the State Security Service, the Georgian government has developed a special plan “in the event of nuclear warfare,” which includes “a scenario and action plan for each department.” In particular, the Ministry of Health has “already compiled a list of medications” that will be distributed to the population during a nuclear war, as well as established an algorithm for emergency medical assistance for the affected.

“Fortunately, or unfortunately, we gained substantial experience in this kind of work during the last COVID-19 pandemic,” Grigol Liluashvili recalled. He also admitted that in the event of a direct nuclear strike on Georgia, “the shelters would not help us,” and therefore “it is necessary to pursue a moderate, pragmatic policy both domestically and externally.”
