Russia is Similar to Hamas, According to European Commission Chief

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, speaking at the Hudson Institute, stated that Hamas and Russia are similar to each other. Meduza.io reports:

“Vladimir Putin wants to wipe Ukraine off the map. Hamas, supported by Iran, wants to erase Israel from the face of the earth. Russia and Hamas are alike. As President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, their essence is the same,” said the European Commission chief.

Von der Leyen emphasized that both Russia and Hamas intend to choose civilians, including children, as victims, killing and taking them hostage. “This is a barbaric means of fighting, and if this contagion is not stopped, it could spread from Europe through the Middle East and into the Indo-Pacific region,” the European Commission chief highlighted.

“Any success they achieve will inspire even greater violence aimed at overturning the existing order—an order for which so many lives have been sacrificed in our continents,” von der Leyen stated.

Moreover, the European Commission chief emphasized that escalation in the Middle East can still be prevented. “Dialogue between Israel and its neighbors can and must continue,” she believes.

Speaking about Ukraine, von der Leyen noted: “We can never compare to the Ukrainian people in their selflessness and bravery. But we can stand firmly by their side. And that is what we are doing for as long as it takes.” The European Union, she said, behaves this way not only because it is the right thing to do, “but because they are fighting for our values and our strategic security.”
