Israel Withdraws All Diplomats from Turkey
Mariam Z.
Israel has withdrawn all of its diplomats from Turkey due to security concerns related to a series of protests and attempts to assault Israeli diplomatic missions in the country. The decision comes after demonstrators attempted to storm the ambassador's residence in the capital, Ankara, and the consulate building in Istanbul, AFP reports.
Officials say that the diplomats, including Ambassador Irit Lillian, have left Turkey, asserting that their departure is for security reasons rather than political ones. “This is a temporary measure that should be short-term,” an anonymous source told AFP.
Reports suggest that Tel Aviv is considering similar actions for its diplomats in other countries in the Middle East.
