Will Russian State TV Channels Be Blocked in Armenia?

The Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, Robert Khachatryan, urges not to rush into discussions regarding the fate of Russian state television channels. After a government meeting, he provided a cautious response to journalists' questions about whether these channels would be abolished in Armenia.

Earlier, Luysine Badalyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, stated that it is necessary to disconnect Russian television channels due to their "anti-Armenian content," which she claims poses a threat to the country’s national security. She also mentioned that discussions about such an initiative have been ongoing for a considerable time and will be addressed in the National Assembly.

“Let’s not rush ahead. If we have news, we will definitely inform you and provide answers to all questions,” the minister stated.

Regarding the violations identified by the Television and Radio Commission, Khachatryan assured that appropriate measures will be taken to address them. However, he did not specify what actions would be implemented, assuring that further information would be shared.

It is worth noting that Grigory Karasin, head of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia, reacted to the MP’s statements, asserting that he is convinced such moves in Armenia will not gain support and will not undermine the centuries-old friendship between the two peoples for the sake of any political conjuncture.
