Prosecutor Demands 5-Year Imprisonment for Doctor Armen Charchyan
The prosecutor is demanding a 5-year prison sentence for MP Armen Charchyan from the "Hayastan" faction. Attorney Erik Aleksanyan reported that the prosecutor submitted such a motion to the court today.
"I will present a speech at the court session scheduled for November 24 at 16:00," Aleksanyan wrote on his Facebook page.
It is recalled that on June 18, an audio recording surfaced online in which Charchyan was heard urging his staff to vote in the parliamentary elections, hinting not to vote for the ruling authorities. Charchyan was arrested on the same day.
Additionally, on June 21, the Central Electoral Commission permitted criminal prosecution to begin against Charchyan. He was detained, then released on a $15 million bail. Charchyan was re-arrested on August 23. On December 10, the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction decided in an urgent session to release the MP. By the decision of Judge Vahe Misakyan, the precautionary measure was changed to a signature not to leave the country.
