A Roadmap for Peace Has Been Established Between Yerevan and Baku with EU Mediation: Pashinyan

A roadmap for the regulation of relations between Yerevan and Baku has been created with the mediation of the EU. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this today during a joint announcement with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

Reflecting on his discussions with his Lithuanian counterpart, Pashinyan noted that he presented Lithuania's proposal and draft for the peace intersection, which he also discussed in the European Parliament. The primary goal of this proposal is to reopen and activate regional north-south and east-west communications, including through Armenian territory, connecting the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean and the Black Sea to the Persian Gulf.

“This can serve not only as a long-term guarantee for stability and development in our region but also become an important link in global economic cooperation. It can also activate EU-Armenia and Lithuania-Armenia economic ties,” said the Armenian Prime Minister.

Pashinyan emphasized that he also informed Šimonytė about the current situation in the region, particularly the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and the fact that many Armenians have become refugees, as well as the steps taken by the Armenian government to address their urgent needs.

Turning to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, Pashinyan added that during meetings with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Brussels, mediated by European Council President Charles Michel, a roadmap for peace and normalization of relations has been established between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which was also reflected in the four-party statement in Granada.

“Commitment to this roadmap by both sides will ensure breakthroughs in the peace process. Armenia confirms its commitment to the aforementioned principles,” said Pashinyan.
