International Community Shocked by Gaza Hospital Shelling

On Wednesday, the UN Security Council will hold an open meeting to discuss the ongoing events in the Middle East and the attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip. Representatives from both Israel and Palestine are expected to address the meeting.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed horror over the killing of hundreds of Palestinian civilians during the attack on the Gaza hospital and vehemently condemned the assault.

The Foreign Minister of North Macedonia, the current OSCE Chair Buajr Osmani, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have expressed their shock at the attack. They have extended condolences to the families of the victims, condemned the airstrike, and stressed the importance of investigating all circumstances surrounding the attack.

Josep Borrell, the head of EU diplomacy, stated that the European Union should condemn not only Hamas's attacks on Israel but also the assaults on Gaza's civilian population. “Of course, Israel has the right to defend itself. But the right to self-defense has limits, and in this case, those limits are defined by international law and international humanitarian law. We condemn the horrific terrorist attacks on Israel, but I believe we must also condemn the attacks on the civilian population in Gaza,” Borrell said.

European Council President Charles Michel expressed being “shocked by the tragic attack on the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in the Gaza Strip.” He added, “It is necessary for all facts related to this incident to be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible must be held accountable. We also call for immediate humanitarian assistance to be allowed into the Gaza Strip to provide aid.”

The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has urged Muslim and Arab leaders not only to condemn Israel's actions but also to take concrete measures to halt its war machine.

Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Israel, with the participation of its American counterparts, should provide satellite images to prove that it did not participate in the attack on the Gaza hospital.
