Turkey is a NATO member and the only U.S. military ally in our region, says Varujan Geghamyan
Turkologist Varujan Geghamyan's Facebook post reads:
“Propaganda in Armenia has managed to bring out of public perception the simple fact that Turkey is a NATO member and the only U.S. military ally in our region. Many find it difficult to comprehend that Turkey’s advancement in the South Caucasus, in contrast to Iran and Russia, aligns with U.S. and NATO interests. And what Turkey will do with this result regarding Armenia is a question of little significance.
To break this perception, it is important to remember that Turkey is a NATO member. This is well understood in Turkey, despite the rhetorical tension and contradictions they may have with NATO.
Here are the latest results from a recent survey by the George Marshall Fund among NATO member countries. In Turkey, when asked, 'How important is NATO to your country’s security?' the overwhelming majority of respondents, 80%, replied 'Very important' or 'Important.' Only 15% disagreed (down from 30% previously). And only a handful of certain Armenian propagandists are deliberately lying on this matter.”
