Israel's Ambassador to the UN Calls for Antonio Guterres' Immediate Resignation
The Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, has called for the organization's leader, Antonio Guterres, to resign immediately. "The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is not worthy of leading the UN," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
In a related statement, the Israeli Foreign Minister announced that he would not meet with the UN Secretary-General regarding the Israel-Palestine war due to Guterres' "balanced approach" on the matter.
Earlier, it was reported that the UN Secretary-General stated that Hamas' attack on Israel did not occur in a vacuum: "It is important to understand that the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have suffered 56 years of suffocating occupation," Guterres remarked, adding that they have witnessed violence and displacement.
