Ministers Release Joint Statement at the ‘3+3’ Regional Platform Meeting
On October 23, 2023, the second meeting of the ‘3+3’ regional platform took place upon the invitation of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, with the participation of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. This was reported by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministers emphasized the importance of developing relations based on mutual interests and good neighborliness, highlighting the significance of resolving disputes peacefully, respecting sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity, inviolability of internationally recognized borders, non-interference in internal affairs, prohibition of threats or use of force, and respecting human rights, all based on the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Expressing their positions on various international issues, they discussed the most significant challenges in the region and underscored the importance of platforms like the regional advisory ‘3+3’ platform in facilitating constructive dialogue and establishing mutually beneficial cooperation among the countries playing a central role in that regard.
The ministers noted the positive impact of economic cooperation on strengthening mutual trust, well-being of nations, and stability in the region. They emphasized the need for cultural cooperation, communication between people, and joint projects in education, science, tourism, culture, and sports.
To promote lasting peace and economic development, they agreed to strengthen bilateral and multilateral consultations and cooperation. Welcoming ongoing processes aimed at the normalization and development of relations among all countries in the region, they positively assessed the outcomes of this meeting and reaffirmed that this platform is open for equal participation by Georgia.
The ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Gaza, stressing the immediate need to cease targeting innocent civilians. The foreign ministers of the Republic of Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Turkey, and Russian Federation thanked the Iranian Foreign Minister for the warm hospitality and the successful organization of this meeting.
Appreciating the periodic meetings of the ‘3+3’ regional platform in expanding and strengthening the environment of trust and cooperation in the region, they agreed that the next meeting will be held in Turkey, with the date to be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
