Why Did the Prime Minister Go to Granada If Aliyev Wasn't Coming? Answers Pashinyan
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, addresses the question of what was achieved during the meeting in Granada. Why did the Prime Minister participate in the meeting if Azerbaijan was not coming?
Pashinyan responded: “There are no absolutely ideal conditions and there never will be. Granada provided us with two very important statements. The first is the quadrilateral statement involving Macron, Scholz, Michel, and myself. The second is the bilateral statement between Ursula von der Leyen and myself. Overall, there is a consensus regarding the deepening of the EU-Armenia relations.
Both statements recorded what should be the pillars of peace in our region. One of these is the mutual recognition of the territories by both sides. The second is that the delimitation process must occur based on the Alma-Ata declaration and also based on the maps from the last period of the Soviet Union, which were provided to both parties. Third, the unblocking of regional communications should take place under the jurisdiction of the protection of countries' sovereignty.
It was also noted that the use of force by Azerbaijan in Artsakh was recorded, as well as the forced displacement of people, and the support process from the EU and the deepening of relations with Armenia to the extent that Armenia wishes. The only gap in all this is that the document is quadrilateral, not pentagonal.”
