Israeli Strikes on Syria Could Ignite Armed Escalation Throughout the Region, Russian Foreign Ministry
The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement indicating that, according to available information, on October 12, Israeli air forces struck targets within the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic. The attacks resulted in damage to the runways of Damascus and Aleppo international airports, halting their operations.
"These actions by the Israeli side constitute a gross violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and the fundamental norms of international law," the statement reads.
"The targets of the strikes have again included critical civilian infrastructure in Syria, such as airports. Thus, the lives of innocent people and the safety of international air traffic have been put in real jeopardy. In the context of the sharp deterioration of the situation in the Palestine-Israel conflict zone, such aggressive actions carry extremely dangerous consequences as they could provoke armed escalation throughout the region. This must not be allowed under any circumstances," the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
