Mass Displacement of Armenians Caused by Azerbaijan, Statement from 34 Countries
On October 11, during the 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, 34 countries issued a joint statement expressing deep concern regarding the severe humanitarian and human rights crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, according to the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The joint statement was read at the UN Office in Geneva by the Permanent Mission of France.
"We are profoundly concerned about the grave humanitarian and human rights crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the displacement of the population from Nagorno-Karabakh in recent weeks. According to a report from a UN mission that visited the region, nearly the entire Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, over 100,000 people, has been displaced to Armenia. The report rightly highlights the suffering they have endured as a result of this ordeal. The mass displacement of the Armenian population from their homes has been caused by military operations conducted by Azerbaijan on September 19 of this year, as well as the blockade of the Lachin Corridor for nine months, which has led to a dire humanitarian situation," the statement specifically mentions.
