Court Hearing for Armen Ashotyan Postponed
The court hearing for Armen Ashotyan, the vice president of the Republican Party of Armenia, has been postponed. According to the announcement by Vahé Dolmazyan, the judge of the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia, the preliminary hearings have been delayed due to the end of the workday.
Defense attorney Tigran Atanesyan stated in a conversation with reporters that he assesses the hearing negatively, as there have been motions that once again prove that an obvious illegal political persecution is being carried out. He said, “In such cases, judges start to distort the laws, saying that black is white. The defendant was not present; I did not say anything specific as they began the hearing without him. This was not a legitimate hearing, and the judge should be held accountable for that, but we understand that this will not happen. We do not consider this a court, it is a podium for us to communicate with the public. Mr. Dolmazyan has no chance of independently releasing Armen,” Atanesyan noted.
He added that during the court session, the judge also cited a law that does not exist and stated that he would charge based on it, but later would judge under a new law.
It is noteworthy that the next session is scheduled for October 11 at 3:00 PM.
