Syria Supports Hamas Attacks Against Israel
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed support for the fighters of the Palestinian Islamic Hamas movement in their actions against Israel, as reported by the Syrian state news agency SANA.
“Syria reaffirms its support for the Palestinian people and their forces fighting against Zionist terrorism and emphasizes that Palestine is close to the desired victory,” the Ministry's statement said.
This morning, October 7, Hamas began launching rockets towards Israel, with reports indicating that around 5,000 rockets were fired. Hamas militants have entered Israeli populated areas, taking hostages. The group's aim is stated to be the establishment of a Palestinian state. Iran has supported Hamas's operations.
In response to the attack, Israel commenced a counter-terrorism operation named "Iron Swords" in the Palestinian Gaza Strip. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant referred to the situation as a war and promised that Israel would prevail in it.
NATO and the United States have expressed support for Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has spoken about the need for a long and powerful operation in the Gaza Strip.
According to the latest figures from the Israeli Ministry of Health, over 100 Israelis have died in the country, and 900 have been injured. In the Gaza Strip, 198 people have been reported dead, and 1,610 injured, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
