We Were Shocked That Azerbaijan Used Military Force in Artsakh: Charles Michel
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, stated at the European political community meeting in Granada that they were shocked by Azerbaijan's decision to use military force in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Two days ago, I had a phone conversation with the President of Azerbaijan and clearly emphasized that they cannot have any territorial claims against Armenia. It must be clearly stated that there is mutual recognition of territorial integrity. We will help Armenia cope with the humanitarian consequences of the recent military actions initiated by Azerbaijan. On one hand, we need to provide humanitarian support, and on the other hand, we should take into account Armenia's desire to strengthen relations with the EU. I support this rapprochement; we promised Armenia an investment package of about 2 billion euros in the past. Armenia needs our support,” he noted.
Michel also addressed Aliyev's decision not to attend the Granada meeting, saying, “I acknowledge Ilham Aliyev's decision, but I am also convinced that it is possible to reach solutions through diplomatic means. This is Aliyev's personal decision, and I do not want to comment on it publicly.”
