Pashinyan, Macron, Scholz, and Michel to Meet in Granada
Leaders of Armenia, France, Germany, and the European Council, Nikol Pashinyan, Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz, and Charles Michel will meet in Granada, despite the absence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. This information was revealed by a senior EU official in a conversation with reporters.
“The quadrilateral meeting of the leaders of Armenia, France, Germany, and the European Council will take place to discuss the current situation and consider what the EU can do regarding the prospects for further work on normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the official stated.
The EU senior official also mentioned that practical steps are expected to be taken during the meeting to advance and deepen the EU-Armenia agenda.
It should be noted that today in Granada, the next meeting between Pashinyan and Aliyev was supposed to occur with the participation of French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and European Council President Charles Michel. Azerbaijani media reported yesterday that the Azerbaijani President refused to travel to Spain, citing France’s “unconstructive” position, as well as the disagreement between Paris and Berlin regarding the participation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the meeting.
Later, Pashinyan confirmed that the five-party meeting will not take place, but his delegation will still go to Spain. The Armenian Prime Minister traveled to Spain yesterday, October 4. He will participate today in the third summit of the European Political Community in Granada.
