Hajiyev: 'We Truly Regret That Most Peaceful Residents Chose to Leave'
Mariam Z.
Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, commented on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh in an interview with British BBC, stating, 'We truly regret that most of the peaceful population decided to leave. Of course, in this case, we respect the freedom of choice and freedom of movement.'
In response to the question of whether this marks the end of a 30-year conflict, Hajiyev replied, 'We hope it is. We have finally reached the definitive end of a 200-year conflict. Azerbaijan wants peace.'
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan launched a large-scale attack against Artsakh on September 19. As a result of the Azerbaijani aggression, Artsakh suffered at least 200 deaths and over 400 injuries in just one day.
