Acceptance of the Rome Statute is Part of a Trend to Distance from Russia, Says Russian Deputy Foreign Minister

The acceptance of the International Criminal Court's (ICC) Rome Statute by Armenia is part of a broader trend to distance itself from Russia. This statement was made to TASS by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov during the international conference "Russia and Ibero-America in a Restless World: History and Modernity."

"Unfortunately, this action fits into a trend that has developed in recent times. We are seeing more and more demonstrative steps taken by Yerevan aimed at distancing itself from Russia," said Ryabkov.

It is noteworthy that on October 3, the Armenian National Assembly ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court with 60 votes in favor and 22 against. The opposition factions "Armenia" and "I Have Honor" voted against, boycotting the discussion on the adoption but participating in the voting.
