U.S. House Speaker Allows Vote on His Removal

U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has announced that on Tuesday, October 3, he will declare a vote regarding his ousting, following a request from Republican members, according to The New York Times.

McCarthy stated that he is "confident" in his ability to thwart attempts to remove him from the Speakership of the House. As he told reporters, if Democratic members and five Republicans vote in favor of his resignation, he will be removed.

Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz submitted a motion for McCarthy's removal the day before. According to Gaetz, the reason was the Speaker's collaboration with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown.

It is noteworthy that U.S. President Joe Biden signed a 45-day budget proposal that included only funding for government operations but not assistance for Ukraine. Had the bill not been approved, it would have led to a crisis, the President explained at that time.
