‘If Samvel Shahramanyan had committed suicide, it would have been more appropriate’: Andranik Kocharyan

‘If Samvel Shahramanyan had committed suicide, it would have been more appropriate’: Andranik Kocharyan. The chairman of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, Andranik Kocharyan, made this statement today in an interview with Aravot.am, discussing the decree signed by the President of Artsakh.

“Artsakh should not have been plundered, did you come to that? Why was it plundered? And this, what they signed, what feelings do you have about it? You know, right? If you hadn’t signed, you would have left a horizon for me, you, your kids, and my kids. But when you sign, the state dissolves, who are you, boy, where did they find you?” Kocharyan said in the interview.

When asked by the media if there was another way, given that the ‘gun was held to a person’s forehead’, how could that person make another decision, Andranik Kocharyan replied: “I would have taken that gun because this is another problem. Didn’t he know that a gun would be pointed at his head? Maybe it would have been more appropriate for him to commit suicide.”

On the question of whether if Shahramanyan had committed suicide, would that have resolved the issue of Artsakh, Kocharyan answered: “It would have preserved the question of the horizon.” Responding to the observation that when the decision is forced, according to specialists, that decision cannot have international legal force, he replied: “That coercion still needs to be evaluated. I think the investigative committee still has two months to understand what happened.”
