Armen Ashotyan to Remain in Custody as Court Rejects Appeals

The Deputy Chairman of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Armen Ashotyan, will continue to remain in custody. This was reported by his lawyer, Tigran Atnasyan.

“The Court of Appeals judge Sergey Marabyan rejected our appeals and left Armen Ashotyan in custody,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

It is noteworthy that Armen Ashotyan was arrested on June 16 for two months. He, along with the former rector of Yerevan State Medical University, Mikayel Narimanyan, is accused of embezzling property worth about $100,000 belonging to the university. They are accused of acquiring cottages from the 'Zovasar' hotel complex at inflated prices (subsequently with 'kickbacks') during the period when the Deputy Chairman of the ARF headed the university's Board of Trustees.
