Blinken Discusses Situation in Nagorno-Karabakh with Aliyev
The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted the need for security guarantees for the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh and the protection of their rights during a telephone conversation with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev. This was stated in a written statement by Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the State Department, as reported by TASS.
According to Miller, Blinken emphasized that Azerbaijan must refrain from further military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh and ensure unhindered humanitarian access. Blinken urged Aliyev to provide guarantees to the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh that they will be able to live safely in their homes, and that their rights will be protected.
“The Secretary of State has called on President Aliyev to commit to conducting a broad amnesty and to allow an international observation mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as to publicly express his commitment to ensuring a future based on peace, mutual understanding, and respect for all in Nagorno-Karabakh,” Miller reported.
