Yerevan and Baku Must Commit to 'Concrete Steps and Decisive Compromises': EU

“Concrete actions and decisive compromise steps are necessary in all directions of the Armenia-Azerbaijan settlement.” This was stated in the announcement published by the European Union following the talks held today in Brussels between Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan and Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan.

“Grigoryan and Hajiyev discussed potential specific steps to be taken within the framework of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, including border delimitation, security, humanitarian issues, as well as the broader question of a peace agreement,” the statement reads.

“The meeting provided an opportunity for an active exchange of ideas regarding the urgency of a potential meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan on October 5 in Granada. The European Union is confident that the potential meeting in Granada should be used by both Yerevan and Baku to reaffirm their commitment to respect each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, based on previously reached agreements in Prague and Brussels,” the EU announcement noted.

In the widely distributed document, the European Union also emphasizes the need for transparency in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the accessibility of “humanitarian and human rights protection organizations.”

It is worth noting that the meeting between Armen Grigoryan and Hikmet Hajiyev took place in Brussels.
