The U.S. Expresses Concern Over the Situation in Artsakh: Matthew Miller

The U.S. is concerned about the current situation. This was stated by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller during a press briefing in response to the mass exodus of people from Artsakh to Armenia.

"We consider it a priority to maintain the existing ceasefire, to prevent further military operations. Secondly, the humanitarian needs of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh must be met, and thirdly, Azerbaijan and Armenia must reach a stable peace agreement," Miller said.

According to him, the ethnic Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, when making a choice, should be able to remain in their homes in peace and dignity, with respect for their rights and security. "Those who wish to leave and return should receive safe passage, which will be overseen by a neutral, independent third party. Azerbaijan bears the responsibility to protect civilians and ensure humane treatment for all, including those suspected of being militants. We believe there should be an international mission to ensure transparency, assurance, and confidence for the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh and the international community that their rights and security will be protected, as publicly stated by Azerbaijan," Miller added.
