Putin and Raisi Discuss Situation Around Nagorno-Karabakh
The Presidents of Russia and Iran, Vladimir Putin and Ebrahim Raisi, exchanged views on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was reported by the Kremlin’s press service.
“A detailed exchange of thoughts took place on the current situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and the issues related to the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the statement said.
It was noted that Putin informed Raisi about the activities of the Russian peacekeeping forces, including the humanitarian aid being provided to peaceful residents and the protection of the rights and security of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“The presidents of the two countries expressed interest in activating the work of the '3+3' regional consultative platform (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia plus Russia, Iran, and Turkey),” the statement added.
It is noteworthy that the first and so far the only meeting in the '3+2' format (Georgia has so far refused to participate in the platform’s activities) took place in December 2021 in Moscow.
