If Armenia Does Not Participate, How Will the Route Proceed Through Iran? Erdogan on the 'Zangezur Corridor'
During a conversation with journalists on his way back from Nakhchivan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, discussing the 'Zangezur Corridor' and the realities concerning regional peace. He stated, 'We do not see any issue that cannot be resolved if Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the principle of neighborliness are respected. Progress in the Azerbaijani-Armenian process will also give a significant boost to regional regulation.'
'Establishing direct land and railway connections with Nakhchivan and other regions of Azerbaijan will strengthen our relations. Thanks to this strong connection, we will soon be able to cover much more distance by running than by walking. That is why we will do everything possible to open this corridor as soon as possible. The realization of this corridor, which is very important for Turkey and Azerbaijan, is a strategic issue and must be completed.'
'When this corridor opens, vehicles or trains leaving Baku will be able to reach Kars directly. The Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood will be greatly strengthened. If Armenia does not participate, how will the route proceed? Through Iran. Iran is positively inclined towards this, so a route can be created through Iranian territory to Azerbaijan. It is good to see positive signals from Iran on this issue.'
