Some Hotels in Syunik Province Fully Booked as They Try to Accommodate Displaced People from Artsakh

Some hotels in Syunik Province are fully booked as they currently attempt to accommodate forcibly displaced individuals from Artsakh. It remains unclear how long these displaced persons will stay, whether they will remain in hotels, and what roadmap the government has developed. Hotel representatives were not aware of these details.

According to Hetq, as of 12:00 today, the Goris hotel has already accommodated 125 individuals from Artsakh. While the hotel can accommodate nearly 200 people, it was partially occupied when the displaced individuals arrived. Hotel representative Harutyun Hayrapetyan mentioned, “We have permanent guests here. However, we are trying to accommodate an additional 30-40 people beyond the initial 125.”

The Kirich hotel has reported that some of the displaced individuals have plans to travel to Yerevan. Currently, almost all guests at the hotel are from Artsakh. The hotel has eight rooms in total; as of 11:30 AM, one room was becoming available. Out of the 25-30 Artsakh residents, 10 are expected to leave soon for Yerevan. “We are awaiting a new group. At the moment, there are no free spots. We are also utilizing additional bed spaces to accommodate everyone,” hotel representatives stated.

The Syunik hotel in Goris has also limited availability and has already accepted a group of individuals from Artsakh while awaiting another group. During the government meeting on September 22, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that more than 40,000 places have been prepared to receive displaced persons, which includes housing as well as healthcare and food provisions.

“In this regard, we can state that we are prepared and continue to prepare. This represents a coordinated position with our partners from Nagorno-Karabakh that our plan A is not to depopulate Nagorno-Karabakh, i.e., moving our compatriots out is not plan A,” the Prime Minister stated.

However, in conversations, various hotels primarily in Syunik and largely in Goris noted that there had been no reservations until yesterday, and currently, the hotels are finding situational solutions. Only the Goris hotel indicated that reservations for the displaced individuals were made 2-3 days ago by the government.

Not all hotels were willing to respond to inquiries due to the uncertain circumstances they faced. They mentioned only that they are attempting to accommodate the maximum number of individuals from Artsakh. They do not know how long these individuals will remain in hotels or how many more will be arriving.

To accommodate the displaced individuals, the government is considering hotels not only in Syunik but also in other provinces. This information was conveyed to us by Sona Harutyunyan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure. According to her, needs assessments for the displaced persons are being conducted in Kornidzor and Goris. Those wishing to relocate to a friend, relative, or their properties in Armenia are heading in those directions.
