ICRC Negotiates Expansion of Emergency Humanitarian Activities in Artsakh
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) plans to increase its urgent humanitarian operations in Nagorno-Karabakh and is negotiating with decision-makers regarding the delivery of food and hygiene supplies. This information has been reported by the ICRC.
It is noted that a ceasefire was announced on September 20, but the humanitarian consequences of the military escalation are still felt throughout the region.
"People have left their homes, relatives have lost contact with each other. Reports are coming in of injured individuals from the fighting who have yet to receive assistance," the ICRC statement reads.
The ICRC reminds that on September 18, for the first time, it organized the simultaneous delivery of goods, including wheat flour and essential medicines, through the Lachin corridor and the Agdam road. Since that time, the organization has also provided medical supplies to military and civilian hospitals. Additionally, it has delivered new shipments, including the distribution today of 28,000 baby diapers and 200 warm blankets to people in shelters who had to flee their homes.
Moreover, a thousand liters of diesel fuel have been sent to the Stepanakert Medical Center to ensure the uninterrupted operation of generators, as well as 500 liters of diesel for the generators supplying water to the city.
ICRC staff have also begun registering lost children and those who have lost contact with relatives. Local residents are also appealing to the ICRC for assistance in recovering the bodies of deceased relatives.
It is worth noting that today, accompanied by the ICRC, nine injured individuals from Martuni have been transferred to Stepanakert. The ICRC has also provided a certain quantity of medical supplies to the hospital.
