Zahharova on Artsakh: "This Could Be a Lesson for All Who Will Shift Mediation Towards the West"

Numerous expectations surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh were linked to the mediation of France and President Emmanuel Macron personally, stated Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an interview with RT France correspondent Igor Kurashenkov.

“Look at what it led to. Paris tried to take over this mediation agenda and claim that France would be better at mediating than anyone else, especially Russia. While Russia fulfilled its mediator functions, there were genuinely good, fundamental grounds for moving towards a peaceful resolution. As soon as the Western ideology began to interfere in the situation, everything changed,” Zakharova said.

According to her, this could serve as a lesson for everyone inclined to shift mediation towards the West. “In the end, Paris didn't even consider it necessary to find a word to explain itself in any way,” the Russian Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
