“Passing a Law is Not Enough, It Must Be Implemented”: Erdoğan
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has stated that the promises made by Sweden to Ankara in the process of joining NATO have not yet been fulfilled. The approval of Sweden's application must now be decided by the Turkish parliament.
“The West keeps saying Sweden, while we say that until our parliament makes a decision, we cannot say yes or no. First, Sweden must fulfill its obligations. We are told that they have passed a law, but passing a law is not enough; it must be implemented. Terrorist activities continue in the streets of Stockholm. The promises made to us have essentially not been fulfilled. What position will my parliament take? Let them watch. If they want us to bring the issue to parliament, we will do so, but the decision will be made by the parliament,” Erdoğan said before traveling to the U.S. to attend the UN General Assembly.
