VIDEO: "Rome Statute Will Be Ratified Fully According to Our Faction's Position" - Pashinyan
Armenia will fully ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement during a Q&A session at the National Assembly.
"The government has sent the Rome Statute to the National Assembly, and according to my and our faction's position, it will be ratified fully. This has nothing to do with Armenia-Russia relations; it pertains to Armenia's security issues," Pashinyan stated.
Earlier, the Constitutional Court recognized the obligations stated in the Rome Statute, which was signed on July 17, 1998, as compliant with the constitution. In 2022, the government had approached the Constitutional Court regarding this matter. Later, the executive body sent the Rome Statute to the National Assembly for ratification.
The government has revisited the issue of recognizing the Rome Statute, as the justification for this initiative sees potential in holding Azerbaijan accountable.
