Troop Buildup at the Border Reflects Continuation of Azerbaijan's Aggressive Policy: Khandanyan

The troop buildups at the border are indicative of Azerbaijan's continued aggressive policy. This was stated today, September 13, during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Sargis Khandanyan.

He noted that Azerbaijan is not fulfilling its obligations and is once again attempting to solve issues through the use of force. “The buildup of troops and equipment by Azerbaijan along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border attests to Baku's ongoing aggressive policy, its repeated failure to fulfill obligations, and its attempts to resolve issues through force. This matter must be taken seriously. You know that there have been numerous international engagements to increase pressure on Azerbaijan so that this country does not attempt to resolve any issues through the application of force,” said Khandanyan.

According to him, the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Artsakh and Azerbaijan's aggressive policy negatively affect Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations. “But this does not mean that Armenia should retreat from its goal of resolving problems peacefully and signing a peace agreement. Armenia is ready to return to the negotiating table at any moment and continue discussions on the issues,” Khandanyan stated.

When asked if there are any upcoming proposals from intermediaries for a meeting between the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides, Khandanyan responded that there are currently no specific arrangements. He added that if such an agreement arises, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will inform about it.
