VIDEO: Death Toll from Floods in Libya Exceeds 3000

The death toll from floods in the eastern Libyan city of Derna has surpassed three thousand, according to Al-Arabiya TV, citing the health minister of the government authorized by parliament, Usman Abd al-Jalil.

Earlier, a representative of the Red Crescent in Libya stated that more than nine thousand people are missing due to the floods in Derna.

"The number of fatalities due to the floods has exceeded three thousand," the minister's statement was quoted by the television.

As previously reported, torrential rains caused by Cyclone "Daniel" have led to flooding in several cities and towns in eastern Libya, including Al-Bayda and Derna. Airports and seaports in the region have been closed due to heavy rainfall. The cities of Susa and Derna, located in the east of the country, have been declared disaster zones. A curfew has been imposed in the flood-affected cities.
