Solar Stations to Prevent Bear Attacks on Households

Today, Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan paid a working visit to the Vayots Dzor region to familiarize himself with the measures for mitigating human-bear conflicts and compensatory measures presented in the communities of Shatin and Herman.

The Minister's press office reported that in July, he had visited these areas, assessing the damages suffered by residents due to bear attacks, and promised to provide a mid-term solution to the issue alongside more substantive resolutions.

Today, the Environmental Programs Implementation Office of the Ministry of Environment has provided electric fences to households frequently attacked by bears, which help prevent the wild animals from entering gardens and residential areas.

During a meeting held at the Vayots Dzor Marzpetaran, the Minister presented the vision of the Ministry of Environment for solving the problem to his colleagues, the steps taken in the interim, and expressed hope that with the active support of the marzpetran and international partners, the issue would receive a final resolution. He added that this solution should not be considered final, stating, “the work is ongoing,” as noted in the press release.
