Death Toll from Floods in Libya Exceeds 5300
The death toll from floods in the Libyan city of Derna has exceeded 5,300. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
Ahmed Emdur, a member of the Derna city council, announced on his Facebook page that many buildings and residential areas in the city are completely submerged, with infrastructure devastated by the floods and major roads destroyed. Significant losses have been reported in both the public and private sectors.
The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdulhamid Dbeibeh, has declared a three-day mourning period due to the disaster. Flags will be lowered across the country. The Prime Minister has called for international assistance to be provided to the areas affected by the floods.
Unfavorable weather conditions have also impacted the cities of Benghazi, Bayda, Marj, and Sous in Libya.
