Zaharova: Accusations Against Moscow in Yerevan Harm People in Need in Artsakh

Accusations directed at Moscow by politicians in Yerevan are also harming people in need of assistance in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zaharova, during a press briefing.

“The regularly voiced rhetoric attempting to blame Russia, particularly from Yerevan, is simply unacceptable. This primarily harms those who are currently in need of assistance. And the question arises as to what the political statements allow for, made by several high-level figures in Yerevan. I don’t want to think about it, but many experts suggest that it is aimed at complicating the resolution of the issue,” Zaharova added.

She is convinced that everything necessary should be done now to improve the situation and minimize the suffering of people. Recent statements are damaging and do not help with the main issue: aiding people in Artsakh. Zaharova also recalled the significant contribution Russia has made to the resolution process.

According to her, Russia is currently in constant contact with all interested partners through the Foreign Ministry, Defense Ministry, and other relevant agencies, taking steps to address the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. In particular, Igor Khovaev, the special representative of the minister for support of the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, addressed this topic during his visit to Yerevan last week. He is currently in Baku, where consultations with his Azerbaijani counterparts are planned.

“We are acting in accordance with the comprehensive framework of trilateral agreements between the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. We support unhindered humanitarian access to the region via both the Lachin and Aghdam routes while also calling for avoiding excessive politicization of this issue,” Zaharova said.

She also noted that the EU shamelessly appropriates the initiatives of the Russian side in this case. However, the actions of the EU, in general, do not lead to settlement of the situation.
