Targeted Messages Insufficient to Lift Artsakh Blockade, Ararat Mirzoyan to German Foreign Minister

On September 5, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, had a phone conversation with Annalena Baerbock, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia reports that they discussed issues of stability and security in the region.

Addressing the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia on September 1, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that this was another manifestation of Azerbaijan's ongoing aggressive behavior. He added that Azerbaijan's actions aim to destabilize the situation in the South Caucasus, which should be condemned by the international community.

Both sides emphasized the urgent need to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, particularly its impact on the local population and vulnerable groups. Minister Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia's position on the need to lift the blockade of the Lachin Corridor in accordance with the rulings of the International Court of Justice and highlighted the necessity for clear actions from international actors, including the EU, in this regard.

While commending the targeted messages from partners thus far, Minister Mirzoyan stressed that unfortunately, these are inadequate to achieve positive changes on the ground, lift the de facto blockade of Artsakh, and return Azerbaijan to a constructive dialogue.

The conversation also touched upon possible steps to promote the bilateral cooperation agenda between Armenia and Germany.
