Belgium Requires at Least 7 Billion Euros to Align Stockpiles with NATO Standards
Belgium may need at least 7 billion euros over the next decade to replenish its ammunition stockpiles, according to La Libre Belgique.
“To bring our stockpiles in line with NATO standards, an investment of at least 7 billion euros will be required, which amounts to 700 million euros annually over the next ten years. This is enormous compared to our current resources. We hope to restore our stockpiles over the next decade,” said Frédéric Götinck, head of the Directorate General of Defence Materiel Resources.
“We are approaching the limit of what we can provide to Ukraine,” he added. The military must also consider modernization, particularly regarding “the future weapon systems for new types of ammunition (aircraft, helicopters, ships, land vehicles) that we are in the process of acquiring,” Götinck stated.
Overall, according to Belgium's Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder, Belgium has transferred weapons worth 274 million euros (295 million dollars) to Ukraine.
