Video Released of Gunfire Between Illegal Miners and Law Enforcement in Buryatia; Casualties Reported

A video has emerged online purportedly showing gunfire between law enforcement agencies and illegal jade miners in Buryatia. RTVI reports that the footage was released by the Telegram channel Baza.

According to preliminary information, the incident took place on July 26 in the vicinity of the Ospinsky mining site. On that day, seven police officers were deployed following complaints from local companies. The latter claimed that several dozen men were engaged in the illegal extraction of precious metals.

Upon arrival, the police encountered a group of around 40 individuals, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Baza reports that two illegal miners were injured in the incident. In total, 27 people have been detained, while others managed to escape. Authorities are currently working to locate those who fled.
