Protesters in Niger Threaten to Storm French Embassy
Protesters gathered near the French embassy in Niger are threatening to storm the diplomatic representation building unless the French ambassador leaves the country within the next few hours. This information was reported by TASS, citing local media.
It has been noted that demonstrators have dismantled the metal barriers around the embassy while being watched by Nigerien soldiers and police. The number of protesters is significantly higher than in previous days, and they are loudly chanting anti-French slogans.
It is worth mentioning that Niger's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has once again demanded that French Ambassador Sylvain Ité leave the African country. The diplomat has been given 48 hours to comply. The ministry stated that both the French ambassador and his wife are in Niger illegally.
In response, the French Foreign Ministry declared that the rebels have no right to make demands of Ambassador Ité, as his agrément (the agreement to accept the ambassador) was granted by Niger's legitimate authorities.
