Peskov Calls Claims of Russia Fomenting Famine in Africa Unfounded

Ukrainian officials' claims that Russia is fomenting famine in Africa are absolutely unfounded. This was stated to reporters by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia. His words are cited by Interfax.

Peskov emphasized that such statements are a "deliberate distortion of reality". According to him, the lack of grain and food on the African continent has nothing to do with Russia's position. "On the contrary, Russia has a very responsible stance. Despite the international community's failure to fulfill its obligations towards Moscow, Russia has repeatedly extended the grain deal," Peskov reminded.

He noted that, despite the fact that the grain deal is not currently functioning, Russia maintains a responsible posture. "You know about the initiative to send free grain batches to the poorest countries on the African continent. This was announced at the recently held Russia-Africa summit," highlighted the press secretary of the Russian president.

Peskov stressed that Russia continues to engage in grain trade and is a responsible and very serious supplier, despite the significant difficulties imposed on it by EU countries and the USA. He referred to the illegitimate restrictions directed against Russian suppliers.
