Lightning Claims the Life of 25-Year-Old in Gegharkunik Region: He Was a Contract Soldier
During the transportation of animal feed in the village of Akunk, in the Vardenis community of the Gegharkunik region, a 25-year-old resident named Arkadi Hovhannisyan, a contract soldier and participant in the Artsakh 44-day war and the September 2022 wars, was killed by lightning. This was reported by Armenpress.
According to Nikola Khachatryan, the administrative head of Akunk village, the incident occurred on the afternoon of August 29, during a severe thunderstorm.
“Arkadi was arranging bales of grass on top of a car, while his brother and cousin were passing them up from below. When the lightning struck, he fell off the bales. After the lightning hit, everyone was stunned, and when they regained consciousness, they saw that the hay was on fire, and Arkadi had fallen from the vehicle. Nearby soldiers came to assist. Arkadi passed away on the way to the hospital. He was a very intelligent, organized, and brave young man. The fact that he participated in the Artsakh 44-day war and the September 2022 conflicts, and was injured but resumed military service after recovering, speaks to his resilient character and strong will. The entire village is shocked by the incident; we mourn and grieve today as we buried our brave soul, who was preparing to get married,” Khachatryan stated in an interview with the media.
