Russia's Proposal to Send CSTO Mission to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict Zone Remains in Force

The Russian proposal to send a monitoring mission of the CSTO to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict zone has not been implemented but remains in force. This was stated by Alexey Shevtsov, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council, in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

“Unfortunately, the decision to deploy it at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has not been realized, but the offer remains in effect,” he noted.

According to Shevtsov, Russia is currently making every effort to implement the high-level tripartite agreements reached in 2020, with Russian peacekeepers addressing the issues of preventing escalation in the contact zone. Efforts are underway towards establishing a peace treaty, unblocking transport corridors, restoring economic ties, delimiting borders, and strengthening confidence.

The Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council also pointed out that the U.S., EU, certain Western countries, and their influence agents are doing everything possible to interfere in the resolution process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, aiming to discredit Russian presence in the region and strengthen their positions.
