France Supports Military Intervention in Niger, Says Macron

France is ready to support any actions and efforts by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), including military measures, to restore constitutional order in Niger. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, as reported by TASS.

“We support ECOWAS's diplomatic and, if decided, military activities in Niger,” Macron said.

On the night of July 27, 2023, military personnel announced the seizure of power in Niger, the suspension of the constitution, the banning of all political parties, and the closure of borders. The opposition supported the rebels, and the power takeover faced criticism in Europe, the United States, and certain African countries.
