Medvedev Accuses the U.S. of Provoking Conflict Between Georgia and South Ossetia

The U.S. provoked the conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia in 2008 to prevent Russia's strengthening. This opinion was expressed by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, in an interview with TASS.

"The United States has played its time-honored role of being a provocateur. They play this role successfully, especially when it comes to other countries and continents," said the former President of Russia.

According to him, the U.S. incited the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict because they seek to provoke such conflicts in all areas where they believe it could yield results.

Medvedev also suggested recalling what Washington was doing at that time. He noted that initially, American officials were making every effort to win over Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, and then they "fed his supporters in every possible way." In particular, shortly before the conflict over South Ossetia, several American delegations visited Saakashvili, likely giving a green light for the start of the provocation, said the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council.
