American Senator Calls Azerbaijan's Actions Against Artsakh a Crime Against Humanity

If Azerbaijan does not lift the blockade, people will starve. This statement was made by American Senator Bill Cassidy on his social media platform.

“The humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is worsening day by day. If Azerbaijan does not lift the blockade, people will starve. Using food as a weapon violates Article 7 of the Rome Statute, which constitutes a ‘crime against humanity,’” he stated.

It should be reminded that on December 12, 2022, a group of Azerbaijani individuals in civilian clothes closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia under the pretext of environmental reasons. They left on April 28, after Azerbaijan established a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor on April 23, taking it entirely under its control. Artsakh has also been deprived of gas and electricity supplies from Armenia.

On July 26, 19 trucks loaded with around 400 tons of essential goods set out from Yerevan to Artsakh, which has been under blockade for more than 225 days. The trucks reached the Kornidzor community in Syunik and have remained at the border of the Lachin corridor since then.
