Greece to Terminate Air Defense System Agreement with Russia

Greece will terminate its maintenance agreement with Russia for the "Tor-M1" and "Osa-AKM" missile defense systems, reports the pronews.gr portal.

With the end of the era of Russian weapon systems in the Greek armed forces, the government has decided to abandon the weapons support program and not to sign new support contracts (FOS). In a leaked top-secret document from the Parliament, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias states that there will be no new support contracts, meaning that purchases for spare parts and services for the short-range missile defense systems Tor-M1 and the older Osa-AKM will not take place.

The document presented by the Greek Ministry of Defense referred to the country’s priorities and progress in its armament programs. It was soon removed from public access, but media outlets managed to get acquainted with it.

"This means that a decommissioning process is now underway for them (SAM - Editor's note), as the available spare parts will only last for a few months, and their accessibility is already limited because the ministry is not even executing the existing contract," the portal states.
